What Cars Sell Best In The UK In 2020?

We are now aware of the best-selling vehicles in the UK for August 2020, thanks to a report released by SMMMT. The top spot is definitely to be expected and although the market was affected by the global pandemic, it does seem that sales are getting back to normal numbers. We just see a 5.8% drop in sales figures for August 2020 when compared with August 2019.

The best selling cars in the UK right now are:

Ford Fiesta

With 29,891 registrations, Ford Fiesta is right on top of the sales figures. April was a horrible month for the car since only 55 units were sold but May was better, with 760. Now, we see the best-selling car in Britain back to regular sales form since dealers started to reopen shops. August sales for Ford Fiesta were 3,372.

Ford Focus

Ford Focus has 25,517 registrations and became the second best-selling vehicle in the region in June 2020. Now in August, it is still at the same post, with the Volkswagen Golf, the main class rival, being down the list.

Vauxhall Corsa

Vauxhall Corsa might surprise some but the fourth best selling vehicle in 2019 in the UK is doing better in 2020, now being at the third spot. In July and June it was actually the second best-selling car. However, in August the Corsa dropped to position 5 as it made 2,081 sales. It will be really interesting to see how this changes when the electric e-Corsa appears on the market since EVs grow in popularity right now.

Volkswagen Golf

The well-known Gold booked 19,370 registrations, with the second-best sales in August 2020 (2,570). In 2019, the Volkswagen Golf was the second best seller and it still remains in the top but it seems to get away from sales leader Ford Focus.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Before the lockdown started, this car sold very well since Mercedes offered competitive finance deals and the car has a premium image. In 2019, it was the fifth best sold vehicle in the UK but now it is just in the fifth position. August sales were 1,722.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai started very strong in 2020. It registered 4,608 registrations in the month of January. However, even if the Nissan extended warranty is very good and the popularity of the vehicle seemed to be rising, the lockdown seemed to affect it very badly, leading to just 49 units sold in the month of April. Also, in August, the car was not even in the top 10 most sold.

MINI

MINI cars have a very strong 2020, even if the lockdown did affect it hard and we did not even see the vehicle in the top 10 during May. June and July were much better, and then August was another month in which top 10 was not reached. However, sales numbers are expected to go up pretty soon because of the launch of the all-electric model. We are looking at many emission-conscious buyers in the UK and any electric launch should lead to more sales.f
